Primarily, the ARSS serves as a training ground to establish terrestrial and satellite communications in the amateur radio bands. In parallel with its goals, it is equipped to send/receive signals to/from picosatellites, nanosatelites and microsatellites with stable analog and digital communications with amateur satellites currently in orbit. In addition, the ARSS with its base radio station can double as an emergency node for communication, coordination and response during emergencies and disasters.

Moreover, ARSS serves as an avenue to promote awareness and interest in satellite technology; students and researchers are given the chance to experiment on amateur satellite communications and develop new hardware and software methods in electronics and radio communication. With an operational ARSS, EEEI is able to collaborate with other universities and institutions in amateur satellite development.
