Project 5: ASP

Advanced Satellite Development and Know-How Transfer for the Philippines

This project aims to plan for future satellite mission and technology development that
will serve various Earth imaging applications for the country, and, in turn,
aiding in transitioning such activities to the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).

Implementing Institutes
DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI)
UP Diliman Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (UP-IESM)
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Mission Planning and Analysis for future Philippine satellites
Stakeholders’ Consultation on Requirements for Earth Imaging
Planning for Satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) Facility Setup
Proposal on Integration of Space S&T in STEM Education
Project Leader
Dr. Gay Jane P. Perez
Dr. Perez is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director for Research and Extensions at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology, University of the Philippines Diliman. She was also the Project Leader of PHL-Microsat’s Remote Sensing and Product Development team.
She received her doctoral degree in Physics from the National Institute of Physics, UP Diliman. Afterwards, she pursued a postdoctoral study at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. In 2018, she became the first Filipina to be awarded the ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women for her research on how precision agriculture can improve yields by using remote sensing and satellite data to better derive and create prediction tools for agricultural in the Philippines. She currently leads a project on agricultural drought assessment and forecasting.
